From the recording Ice Flows-1985
Down Here, is where I began to seriously move away from what had been my standard writing method, which was create the song and lyric and then record. This song started with the rhythm track first. From there I added the acoustic guitar and base, then the synth organ sound all without working it out in advance. It was only at that point that I began formulating the lyric track. The song is ostensibly about being an outsider and I drew from my being gone and returning to Denver as the basis of that; that after leaving and being away for an extended period, even the familiar becomes foreign.
